19 ‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22 ‘The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 ‘No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

25 ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 ‘And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith?

31 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

1. The Spiritual Choice Between Light and Darkness (V22–23)

Activity: “Do you know what the biggest thing in the world is?”

The answer is: “Your eyelids! When you close them, you can’t see anything — even the whole world disappears.”

We must be careful. The ruler of this world tries to blind people’s hearts, so they cannot see the light of Christ or the light of eternity. He wants people to care only about pleasure and not about eternal life.

Brothers and sisters, our eyes are very important, right?

If our spiritual eyes are covered by the master of this world, the darkness is great. We not only lose the true value of this life, but even worse — we cannot see Christ!

Discussion 1:

How is a Christian’s view and principle about money different from a non-Christian’s?

2. The Spiritual Choice of True Treasure (V19–20)

Jesus teaches us: Do not store up treasures on earth, but store up treasures in heaven.

Earthly treasure today may not be eaten by moths or stolen by thieves, but Jesus’ main point is this: Earthly treasures are temporary.

They are not really yours; God only lets you manage them. You cannot take them when you die. They cannot truly satisfy you, and they are not secure.

But when we store up treasures in heaven, they become eternal treasures with eternal satisfaction.

Someone once asked, “I feel I don’t love God enough. How can I love Him more?”

Jesus said in V21: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

This means God doesn’t care how much money you have on earth, but how you use what He has given you.

Jesus’ teaching is the opposite of the world’s.

If our hearts love God and His Kingdom, we will invest our money in eternal things. Jesus teaches us to overcome the power of money (Mammon) by giving first.

Because where your money goes, your heart will follow.

When you give money to God, your heart goes to God — and you will naturally love Him more.

When you give to help the poor, you will care about them more.

When you give to missions, you will pray for missionaries and care about God’s work.

Where your treasure goes, your heart follows!

3. The Spiritual Choice Between Serving God or Mammon (V24)

Who is your master?

If you have chosen your master, you must be faithful to him.

You cannot love both God and money.

God says this is impossible — they cannot exist together.

Our life on earth is short. If we only seek short-term happiness and miss eternity, that is truly sad!

Discussion 2:

How do these spiritual truths and examples help you in your life?

Those who follow Jesus must start from the heart — seeing things clearly with spiritual eyes.

Through the way we handle money, we show our faith and focus on God.

A true disciple lives with a heart centered on God.

Discussion 3:

What is your biggest worry right now?

Summary: Do Not Worry — Trust in God

1. V25–32: Do not worry about food, clothes, or tomorrow.

2. V33–34: Seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness.

Many of our worries come from loving the world too much.

Jesus reminds us: seek His Kingdom and righteousness first.

That means we must break free from the control of money, the world, and selfish living.

When we turn our hearts to God, many of our worries will disappear.
