What is the purpose of prayer?

If prayer isn’t to inform God about things He doesn’t know, and if prayer isn’t about improving the will of God or persuading God to do things differently, then what is the purpose of prayer?

Why did Jesus pray?

Why did Jesus pray to the Father if, like the Father, Jesus is perfect and complete in His knowledge and purposes and therefore needs no improvement?

In other words, Jesus is already perfectly aligned with the Father, so why did Jesus pray to the Father?

Jesus and prayer

Prayer is relational.

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. (John 1:18)

The purpose of prayer is prayer.
