1. What is identity?

2. Old identity

3. New identity

Question 1

What is Identity?

1. What is Identity?

Identity relates to who you are, where you belong, and the purpose for which you were created. It shapes how you live, how you relate to the world, and how you interpret the events and circumstances around you.

1 Peter 2:9

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”

Understanding your Identity in Christ, enables  you to live in faith and boldness.

Romans 8:15-17

“The Spirit you received doesn’t make you slaves. Otherwise you would live in fear again. Instead, the Holy Spirit you received made you God’s adopted child. By the Spirit’s power we call God Abba. Abba means Father.

People may define you by your success, your failures, your culture, or the opinions of others. However, knowing your identity in Christ enables you to see yourself as God sees you.

John 8:31–32

“...You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Question 2

What is the importance of identification cards?

Should we have digital IDs? Why or why not?

2. Old identity

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

There are two identities of the spiritual person:

The old identity – who we were before coming to Christ.

The new identity – who we become when we place our faith in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 clearly contrasts these two identities:

“There is the old and the new!”

What is this old identity?

The old identity is our fallen human nature, which is subject to sin and its consequences. Through Adam's fall, humanity became subject to fear, failure, sickness, and death. As a result, mankind lost the true identity and relationship with God that He originally intended for us.

Question 3

Do you think aliens exist? Why or why not?

3. New Identity.

Romans 8:15; “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”

As believers, we have a new identity as children of God. We are not ordinary humans.

Our new identity in Christ brings many blessings, including:

1. It gives us purpose.

Ephesians 2:10; “For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

2. Chosen by God - Ephesians 1:4-5

“God chose us to belong to Christ before the world was created. He chose us to be holy and without blame in his eyes. He loved us. 5 So he decided long ago to adopt us. He adopted us as his children with all the rights children have. He did it because of what Jesus Christ has done. It pleased God to do it.”

3. Lights of the world - Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can’t be hidden. 15 Also, people do not light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand. Then it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

4. Salt of the earth - Matthew 5:13

“You are the salt of the earth. But suppose the salt loses its saltiness. How can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything. It will be thrown out. People will walk all over it.”

5. We can walk in Health - Matthew 15:25-28

“healing is the bread for God’s children.

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin     and live for what is right. By his wounds  you are healed.

6. we can walk in miracles. Mark 16:17-18

These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

7 Power over the devil - Luke 10:19

“I have given you authority to walk all over snakes and scorpions. You will be able to destroy all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.”

8. Citizens of heaven - Philippians 3:20

“But we are citizens of heaven. And we can hardly wait for a Savior from there. He is the Lord Jesus Christ.”
