Jewish
background:
Elijah
represented all the prophets in the Old Testament. Moses represented God’s Law
given to the people. Together, they represented God’s Word, presence and
deliverance.
At the very end of the Old Testament, God asked His people to remember Moses and prophesized the coming of Elijah (Malachi 4) as a sign of the coming of the Messiah. The Jewish people have been waiting for this for 400+ years.
